Day 9: Downwind weekend for Nick and Tanguy

Hi all, well this morning things are better, from 220 odd miles off the lead we are down to something like 180 (just waiting for the 1600 Sunday report, hopefully…). Passed another boat close by and pulling away from those around us. So at least we are sailing well, it is just mastering the weather that is the tricky bit!

East is still looking quite good but I don’t think it will be truly special. Fingers crossed we will close in on the leaders more and slide through the Canaries OK tomorrow.  After that the latest weather files show more wind in the east again, all promise and hope…… We’ve been smoking downwind (relative term for this race so far) most of today at around 9 knots.

After over a week at sea Tanguy and I are well settled into life, food is certainly going to be in short supply for the last week though, so we are already starting to dream of our favourite foods. Fortunately mine is very simple, spaghetti bolognaise and we have that in freeze dried onboard so I’m happy (as long as Tanguy  leaves them alone!!).

Since Clemency and I moved down to the West Country year, she has re-discovered her riding and persuaded me to get involved too and I have to say, I’m worried this enforced break from my weekly riding lessons is going to mean I will be struggling to keep up when I get back! Also, being cooped up on a relatively small boat means I’ve been starting to miss my daily dog walks with Shackleton and Cleopatra  (Shack and Cleo), our two black Labradors. I hear they’ve been missing me too….

Anyway, aside from obviously missing family and friends, it is the lack of sports news which always gets to me! I’m probably not going to be interested in discussing the weather when I get back, so I better ensure I’m up to speed with the sporting world. Hope you all had a good weekend, ours has gone by in a blur, enjoy Monday morning!!!!
